Mark grew up in South Milwaukee sailing with his parents. The picture above left shows Marko (2 y/o) giving orders to his sister Jill and parents in the cockpit of the first family boat, Questa, a 1929 Hershoff designed “Q” Boat. This boat is now on Flat Head Lake in Montana.  Mark showed an early aptitude for work aloft in the rigging. His interest in football and physical training runs deep. The last picture above shows him at about 10 years old with Jerry Faust, Head Coach for Notre Dame He attended sailing lessons at the South Shore Yacht Club and has been sailing competitively since 1970 when he was eleven years old. After his sophomore year at South Milwaukee High School his parents, Roger H. Strube, M.D. and mother, Kathy Strube moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin where he finished school at Southwest High School. He attended Northern Michigan University supported by his football scholarship. He graduated with a 3.3 G.P.A. earning his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration.

Following graduation Mark attended the University of Miami in Florida where he earned a Masters Degree in Business Management. After working for a discount stock broker in West Palm Beach for several years he left the boiler room cubical life and became the Sailing Instructor of Palm Beach Sailing Club. This position lead to many contacts in the world of national, international and professional sailing. After several years as a sailing instructor Mark became a professional sailor.

Mark has competed over the years for the top position on the US Sailing Team in the Star Class. The top American sailors will be sent to the 2012 London Olympics. Mark and George Szabo are currently ranked second in the Star Class by US Sailing and ranked sixth in the world by the International Sailing Federation (ISAF). The last two major regattas will determine our American Olympic Sailing Teams. These events will be held in Weymouth, UK and Perth, Australia.
